Random Post 2

When I was twelve years old I moved from a small suburb outside of New York City to Malibu, CA. It is an understatement to say that I was unhappy with this move. My dad had gone to college in California and wanted a ‘more relaxed lifestyle’. My parents were tired of always being on the go and not having a moment to breathe. My friends were excited for me, they thought it was so cool I was moving to ‘Cali’—I soon realized after moving to California that no one uses the word ‘Cali’ if you’re actually from California. I was more apprehensive. I thought this was a selfish decision made by my parents, and that it was the worst time for me to move.   I think the biggest difference—besides the climate, my favorite season is fall, and needless to say, there is no fall foliage in Southern California—was the community. I went from living in a neighborhood where I lived on the same street as four of my classmates, I was a three-minute walk to my best friend’s house, and a five-minu...

Book 2 Post 2

I picked My Life on the Road , because I have always been a fan of Gloria Steinem and what she stands for. She is an advocate for equal rights and a chancellor for all who cannot fight for themselves. Last year, I had the privilege of hearing Gloria Steinem speak in my sister’s Zoom class (perks of online classes) and you could still hear the passion in her voice after all of these years. My mom originally read My Life on the Road a few years ago and gave it to me. I had it on my bookshelf for the longest time and never decided to read it. I am so happy My Life on the Road was one of the book options, because it forced me to actually read this book. Steinem is extremely well written and conveys a remarkable story of her life. I can relate to her need for adventure as I too never want to stay in one place for too long.   Steinem is always moving and learning through the different people she meets from place to place. Because of her travels she is able to c...

Book 2, Post 1

Book 2, Post 1   I have always looked up to Gloria Steinem. She has been a voice for so many and a leader in the feminism. I want to read My Life on the Road , because I want to learn more about how she became who she is today. I think it would be so interesting to understand all of the ups and downs on her journey to becoming an activist, author, and feminist. A class my sister was in last year had Gloria Steinem as a guest speaker. Due to COVID, my whole family was able to listen to her speak about her life. It was so inspiring hearing her talk about her journey, and this book will be another window into her life.   This is the newest book written by Steinem and has been chosen as one of Oprah’s Top Ten Favorite Books of the Year . The book illustrates her life as a traveler, listener, and catalyst for change. She explains that her passion and drive after all these years come from her travels and seeing the world around her: “ The road is mes...
